Why Attend?
We've started to see standards for the public relations and communications measurement that pass muster when compared to other business metrics — standards that are slowly becoming acknowledged and implemented industry-wide. Yet how do you measure social media, let alone traditional media? Learn how to go from measurement novice to maven, how to incorporate measurable objectives into a communication plan and how to connect public relations outcomes to business objectives to demonstrate true value.
By attending this session, which Burke first presented at PRSA's 2009 International Conference, participants will:
- See why measurable objectives are so important to the strategic process;
- Understand how to support organizational "KPIs" (key performance indicators) in their work; and
- Clearly demonstrate the business value of public relations to their organization.
Speaker:
Shonali Burke is an accredited, award-winning communications consultant and sought-after speaker based in the Washington, D.C., metro area with a national reach and international network. With more than 12 years communications experience, her forte is measurable, results-based strategic communications—highly personalized world-class communication services where her client's goals are the top priority. She is an agency of one. KD Paine & Partners and The Measurement Standard declared her a measurement maven, and PRWeek named her to its inaugural “Top 40 Under 40” list of public relations professionals in the United States.
She adheres to IABC’s Code of Ethics and is regularly quoted in industry publications on public relations issues. She serves as President for IABC/Washington and on IABC’s International Accreditation Council. Burke teaches Communication.org: Not-for-profits in the Digital Age for Johns Hopkins University’s M. A. in Communications program.
Her select speaking engagements in recent years include the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Vocus Users Conferences, the 2008 Institute for Public Relations Measurement Summit, Ragan Communications’ 2009 Corporate Communicators Conference (where they had to move her from a breakout room to the main ballroom due to the crowd), PRSA’s (Public Relations Society of America) 2008 and 2009 International Conferences, and the final BlogPotomac in 2009.
